About ACMGS

A.C.M.G.S. Elelenwo is an all-girls High school established by Anglican Missions in 1943. The school was named after Archdeacon Dandeson Coates Crowther (1844 - 1938), youngest son of the famed first African Anglican bishop in Nigeria, late Bishop Samuel Ajayi Crowther (1809 - 1891), to immortalize his contributions and interest in the education of girls.

Until the Nigerian-Biafran civil was in 1967, the school's administration was run by the Anglican Mission. After the civil war in 1970, the Rivers State Government took over and ran all Mission Schools as Government/Public Secondary Schools Anglican records indicate the initial enrollment at the time of establishment of the school was 51 girls. Admission was based on entrance examination and interviews, after which eligible students were admitted into the school. The school originally enrolled students into classes one, two and three. By the subsequent years the forms increased to four and five.

ACMGS was and is still highly regarded, respected and known for producing high caliber of ladies also known as "Old Girls". Most of the school's graduates rose to prominent positions in Nigeria. Today, alumnae of A.C.M.G.S. are very productive citizens who are making a great difference at home and abroad.

In July 2005, a law on Government hand-over of Mission schools to their original owners was passed and implemented in July, 2008. Thus, A.C.M.G.S. and 19 other missionary schools were returned to various religious denominations that established them. The Rivers State government handed over 13 schools to the Catholic Mission, seven schools to the Anglican Church, one school to the Methodist and Baptist church respectively.

Today, the management of the institution is under the care of the Bishop of the Diocese, Rt. Rev. Innocent U. Ordu, JP .
